The PhD programme is semester wise and extended from 3-5-years. At Usha Martin University, students can pursue a PhD in Management as a full-time or part-time program, depending on their interests. Below, we’ve gone over both of these options in detail.
- Full-time Ph.D. in Management
A full-time Ph.D. in Management is a doctoral program in management studies that lasts three to five years. The program provides students with a strong methodological foundation, exposure to cutting-edge subjects and methodologies, and the capacity to plan and implement research projects in various business disciplines. It covers a wide range of topics, including labour markets, trade, customer demands, statistical research, and commercialization. Candidates must submit a thesis that is based on a thorough and unique investigation of the topic they have chosen. Admissions are made through the Ph.D. Admission Test and interviews conducted by UMU as per Ph.D. Regulation of the University, based on UGC Guidelines.
- Part-time Ph.D. in Management
Usha Martin University also offers a part-time Ph.D. Management program. It is quite beneficial for persons who want to work and study at once. A part-time Ph.D. in management is the ultimate choice to consider if you are a working professional and wish to acquire a Ph.D. without quitting your job. A part-time Ph.D. program allows students to continue working while earning their degrees. Classes are held two to three times a week, primarily on weekends. The structure, process, and length of the program are all similar to that of a full-time Ph.D. program. A part-time Ph.D. in management is equally as good as a full-time management Ph.D. It’s even better in some aspects because you’ll be able to obtain more professional experience while pursuing your Ph.D.
- Ph.D. in Management program, candidates must hold a master’s or PG degree (M.Com. or MBA).
- The candidates must have a Master’s Degree with a minimum of 55% marks or an equivalent grade from a recognized university or equivalent institution in the particular domain of study.
- Relaxation shall be granted to applicants belonging to the SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories as determined by the UGC and the Government of India.
- To be eligible for the benefits available to reserved category students, they must present their reservation certificates issued by the relevant authorities.
- Candidates who have already passed the UGC (JRF) Examinations, NET, SET, or SLET, or who hold an M. Phil degree, are eligible to appear directly to the interview.

- The Entrance Examination is MCQ based. There are two sections. First section consists of 50 MCQ based on General Awareness and Research Methodology. Second section consists of 50 MCQ questions based on subject domain knowledge. Candidates with an overall score of 50% or higher in the General category and 45% or higher in the SC/ST/OBC category will be eligible for an interview.
- First sitting of 50 MCQ based on General awareness, covering Logical Reasoning, Numerical Ability and Language Competence
- Second sitting of MCQ based on subject domain knowledge
- Admission process will be followed by Personal Interview (PI).
Ph.D. in Management Admission Process
A candidate (Indian or foreign) will be considered for admission only after passing the University’s Entrance Examination.
Entrance Exam
The Entrance Examination is MCQ based. There are two sections. First section consists of 50 MCQ based on General Awareness and Research Methodology. Second section consists of 50 MCQ questions based on subject domain knowledge. Candidates with an overall score of 50% or higher in the General category and 45% or higher in the SC/ST/OBC category will be eligible for an interview.
NOTE: Candidates having an M. Phil degree or who have passed the JEST (Joint Entrance Screening Test) of DAE, UGC-NET, or GATE-IIT will be exempted from the Entrance Examination but must register with the university and be interviewed by a committee formed by the university for the purpose, as per UGC Guidelines.
Interview
Every eligible candidate interested in pursuing a Ph.D. in Management degree will be required to appear in an interview conducted by the University’s Committee. All of these candidates will apply to the university and be scheduled for an interview. The interview will be worth 50 marks, and the final merit list will be decided by the linear sum of the entrance exam and interview scores.
Successful candidates will have the option to pursue research either full-time or part-time. Normally, candidates who are awarded a fellowship by a university or other organization are required to work full-time on their research projects. Part-time students may be able to register if they are employed by an educational or research institution. Furthermore, they would work and be present on the University Campus in Ranchi as needed for their research.
