The communication landscape is undergoing rapid changes due to advancements in digital technology. Some of these include recent developments in mobile phones, and their new multimedia variant of smart phones, which are owned by about 3.5 billion (about 45%) people. India is experiencing rapid growth in mobile connectivity under the Digital India scheme of the Government of India and due their versatility, smart phones have led to the growth of innovative concepts such as Mobile Journalism, which signifies the process of collecting and distributing news using a smartphone or tablet. It is a trend in the coverage and broadcasting of news and has the potential to become a new norm in the practise of journalism, especially for reporting breaking news. That is, mobile journalism is now absolute requirement rather than an option due to accessibility of the Live alternative on Face book, Instagram, YouTube etc.
Several influential media organisations across the globe are resorting to mobile journalism for different reasons. Mention may be made of BBC and Aljazeera Recently, the Indian news channel NDTV has also switched to mobile journalism. Jharkhand’s news channels are also giving due recognition to mobile journalism. In fact, Mobile journalism is now emerging as a new career opportunity for journalism students.
