ABOUT JHARKHAND
Jharkhand is a state in eastern India. On November 15, 2000, it was split out of Bihar’s southern region. Jharkhand is bordered on the north by Bihar, on the north-west by Uttar Pradesh, on the west by Chhattisgarh, on the south by Odisha, and on the east by West Bengal. It covers an area of 79,710 km (30,778 sq mi) with a total population of about 35 million people. Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand whereas, Dumka is its sub-capital. Dhanbad, the most populous city in Jharkhand is renowned as the coal capital of India while Jamshedpur is the biggest industrial city of the state. Deoghar is the most prominent religious center while Bokaro is another industrial center.
Education has played a vital role in the development initiatives of Jharkhand. The literacy rate has been significantly increasing, growing from less than 10% in the 1990s to more than 50% by the turn of the century.
